Move the slider to compare your PTE Academic overall score with an indicative IELTS overall band and CEFR level. The IELTS ranges use Pearson’s July 2025 concordance. PTE Academic to IELTS Academic table

This is Pearson’s July 2025 comparison of PTE Academic overall scores and IELTS Academic overall bands. For example, 58 falls in the 55–62 range alongside IELTS 6.5; 71 falls in the 71–78 range alongside IELTS 7.5. Skill-score comparisons use different tables. A concordance is not a guaranteed result on another test.

PTE scores behind Australian skilled-migration English levels

Superior English69 / 7085 / 88From 7 August 2025
Proficient English58 / 5969 / 76From 7 August 2025
Competent English47 / 4851 / 54From 7 August 2025
Each skill must meet the level on its own

The table lists minimum PTE Academic scores for each skill for tests taken on or after 7 August 2025. All four thresholds must be met. For tests taken on or before 6 August 2025, the earlier thresholds were 50 in each skill for Competent, 65 for Proficient and 79 for Superior. Whether an earlier result is still valid depends on the visa and its evidence period. An overall-score comparison cannot establish eligibility.

Important limits

How to use a concordance responsibly

A concordance shows how scores from two tests line up on average across many test takers. It does not predict the band an individual would earn on the other test, and it does not replace an official result. If an institution or visa stream names a specific test, take that test.

Use it to set a practice target, not to skip the exam

Pick the score your destination requires, convert it to a PTE target here, then build toward that target with focused practice and a full mock.

Score-scale facts checked against Pearson's current PTE Academic scoring guidance on 27 September 2026. Overall-score concordance and visa skill thresholds are separate references; CEFR labels are indicative.
