Bring the right ID and leave early
The two things that most often derail a test day are ID and timing. Get both right and the rest is routine.
Security and check-in
A Test Centre Administrator greets you, verifies your ID and walks you through the rules and the check-in steps — which typically include a photo, a signature and a security check — before showing you to your seat. This is a normal, standardised process; follow the administrator's instructions and ask if anything is unclear.
Phones, notes, watches and other personal items are not allowed in the test room and go in a locker. The room provides your computer, headset and note materials.
One computer-based session, three parts
You sit in a partitioned booth with a computer, keyboard and audio headset, plus an erasable noteboard booklet and pen for notes. The test is delivered on the computer and takes roughly two hours.
| Part | Section | Timing |
|---|---|---|
| Part 1 | Speaking & Writing | 76–84 minutes |
| Part 2 | Reading | 22–30 minutes |
| Part 3 | Listening | 31–39 minutes |
An unscored Personal Introduction comes before the scored Speaking and Writing questions. Speaking responses are recorded through the headset microphone, so speak clearly and at a steady pace. Exact durations vary slightly by test form.

When your score arrives
Most test takers receive their score report within about 48 hours. Pearson officially allows up to five business days, so if an application deadline is close, build in that buffer rather than assuming the fastest case.
Book with enough margin before any submission date. When results are ready, you send your scores to institutions from your Pearson account.
