Is PrepEx good for English test preparation?
PrepEx is a practice platform for five English tests: TOEFL iBT, IELTS, PTE Academic, CELPIP-General and the Duolingo English Test. Each one is built around that test’s current format and score scale, with practice for every task type, full-length timed tests, and feedback on each Speaking and Writing answer that shows what cost you points and what to try next.
It suits learners who want to practise often and know what to fix after every session. You can start free on any test and only pay for the test you’re taking.

Is PrepEx legit?
Yes. PrepEx is run by Spark Learning Limited, is backed by Cyberport, and our grading won the 2025 AATP EdTech Award. We are a TOEFL® Channel Partner for ETS’s official practice tests. PrepEx is a member of the Duolingo English Test Global Partner Network. Our practice content, feedback, and score estimates are independently created by PrepEx and are not official DET materials, scores, or results.
Our questions are written by a content team of experienced educators and examiners from around the world, including Michael Goodine of TOEFL Resources, former Cambridge English speaking examiner Julian Mendez, former PTE examiner Jackson Butchart and Dr. Clive Walker of Walker Higher Education. Is it safe to pay for PrepEx?
Yes. Payments go through Stripe’s secure checkout. You can cancel any time from your account settings and keep access until the end of the period you paid for, and refund requests are handled case by case under our terms. Our privacy policy explains what we keep, and you can delete your account at any time.
PrepEx (prepex.ai) is an English test preparation platform. It is not related to the PrePex medical device.
How accurate are PrepEx scores?
Every PrepEx score is built to sit as close to the real test as a practice test can:
- Same format and timing. Full tests follow each test’s current task types and section timing, so test day feels familiar.
- Same score scale. Results use the scale on your official report: 1–6 for TOEFL, bands for IELTS, 10–90 for PTE, CELPIP levels and 10–160 for the Duolingo English Test.
- Expert-written questions. Questions come from our content team of experienced teachers and test specialists, not generic generated filler.
- Scores that come with reasons. Reading and Listening answers are marked against answer keys. Speaking and Writing are scored against each test’s published criteria, and every score comes with feedback on what to fix.
A PrepEx score shows where you stand and what to work on next. Your official score comes from the test owner: ETS, the IELTS partners, Pearson, Paragon Testing or Duolingo.

How to read your PrepEx score
- Take full tests in one sitting with the timer on. Pauses and retries push a score up, and test day has neither.
- Plan around a typical score, not your best one. After two or three full tests, use the middle result.
- Look at sections, not just the total. Universities, immigration programmes and licensing boards often set a minimum for each section.
- Leave a margin. Aim to sit comfortably above your requirement in every section before you book.
- Add an official practice test before test day. Most test owners offer one, and TOEFL Pro members can buy ETS’s through PrepEx.

What do you get with PrepEx Pro?
Pro removes the daily limits for that test and unlocks its full set of practice tests, with Speaking and Writing feedback on every attempt. Each test’s pricing page lists exactly what its Pro plan includes.
Does one PrepEx subscription cover every test?
No. A subscription covers one test, and one PrepEx account can hold subscriptions to more than one test if your plans change.
Is PrepEx worth it?
It is worth it if you will practise several times a week and use the feedback to decide what to work on next, especially for Speaking and Writing. Try the free practice first to see how the scoring and feedback work for your test.
Is PrepEx harder or easier than the real test?
Each section is built to match real-test difficulty. How hard a section feels depends on your strengths, so judge your level by your section scores across two or more full tests rather than by one sitting.
Can PrepEx predict my score?
It gives you a realistic estimate on your test’s own score scale. For the most reliable picture, take two or three full timed tests, plan around the middle result, and add an official practice test from the test owner before test day.
Does PrepEx use official scoring?
PrepEx scores Speaking and Writing against each test’s published criteria, such as the IELTS band descriptors and the TOEFL 2026 1–6 scale. It does not use the test owners’ own scoring systems; nobody outside those organisations does.
