CELPIP Score Chart: Levels, CLB and Raw Scores

Read your four CELPIP skill levels separately. Use the raw-score charts as approximate practice references, then choose the next skill to work on.

CELPIP levels and CLB: keep the four skills separate

For CELPIP levels 3 through 12, the provider’s comparison chart gives the same numbered CLB level. Level 2 corresponds to CLB 1–2; 0, 1 and NA do not supply an assessed CLB level in that chart. These are level equivalencies, not raw correct-answer conversions.

A profile such as Listening 9, Reading 8, Writing 9 and Speaking 10 still contains a Reading 8. Averaging those numbers would hide the skill you need to improve. Check the individual abilities required by the organization receiving your result.

Reading and Listening: approximate charts out of 38

The provider publishes illustrative /38 ranges for the two objective components. Their boundaries overlap because the number of correct answers needed for a level can change between test forms. A chart lookup cannot reproduce score equating.

For example, 33 correct falls in Listening level 8 and level 9 ranges. The same raw count falls in Reading level 9 and the combined 10–12 range. Select the correct component before interpreting a practice total.

Writing and Speaking do not use a /38 chart

An email or spoken answer cannot be converted by counting correct sentences. Study the public performance dimensions, compare the provider’s examples and inspect the language actually demonstrated.

  • Content and coherence: develop relevant ideas with support.
  • Vocabulary: choose accurate words that fit the context.
  • Writing readability: organize paragraphs and control sentences, spelling and punctuation.
  • Speaking listenability: make the spoken message easy to follow.
  • Task fulfillment: complete the requested purpose with suitable tone and length.

Turn a chart lookup into a useful practice decision

Keep an error log with the task, your chosen answer, the source evidence and the reason the tempting option fails. Reattempt a different item testing the same operation. Improvement on a familiar answer key is weaker evidence than improvement on an unseen set.

Track Reading and Listening correct counts alongside timing. For productive skills, save the first attempt and revision together so you can see whether the same missing support, tone problem or unclear sequence returns. PrepEx feedback is a practice estimate rather than an official component result.
