Subscores and program differences

Production must be at least 120. It is the integrated Writing-and-Speaking subscore, not the individual Writing score. The undergraduate English course requirement is separate from English proficiency testing.

Application planning

Sending your result and checking dates

Wait until you receive your U of T applicant number. Then send your certified result from your DET account to University of Toronto – Undergraduate, adding that applicant number as requested.

Confirm the current instructions for your program and intake on the official Toronto admissions page.

How the DET score compares with IELTS

DET 120 compares with IELTS 6.5 in Duolingo’s overall concordance. Toronto sets its own test requirements, shown above; those requirements take precedence for your application.

Practice around your remaining requirement

If Production is below 120, review your Writing and Speaking performance before planning another test. A higher overall score cannot by itself satisfy the separate Production requirement.

PrepEx scores are independent practice estimates, not official DET results. Meeting a test threshold does not guarantee admission.
