TOEFL Exam Fee 2026: How Much the TOEFL Costs in Every Country

The TOEFL iBT costs between US$170 and US$475, depending on the country where you take it. It's US$280 plus sales tax in the United States, US$185 in Turkey, US$272 in Taiwan, US$293 in Germany, US$250 in Brazil and US$232 in South Korea. The Home Edition costs the same as a test center.

On top of the test fee, ETS charges for late registration (US$49), rescheduling (US$69), extra score reports (US$29 each) and score reviews (US$80 a section). Cancel at least four full days before your test and you get half your fee back.

We checked every fee on this page against ETS's fee page, its India fee page and the TOEFL iBT Information Bulletin on 7 November 2026. ETS changes prices from time to time, so the amount shown in your ETS account at checkout is the one that counts.

How much does the TOEFL cost?

ETS sets one registration fee for each country or location. Of the 210 locations on its list (leaving out India, which has its own rupee price, and Iran, where testing is paused), about four in five pay between US$200 and US$300, and US$255 is the most common fee. The lowest are Nigeria and Ukraine at US$170; the highest are Switzerland at US$475 and Israel at US$425.

The registration fee covers:

• the test itself, at a test center or at home;
• your scores in your ETS account, about three days after the test, and a PDF score report you can download;
• your MyBest scores, which combine your best section scores from all your valid tests in the last two years;
• up to four official score reports sent to the universities or agencies you choose before the test.

Prices on ETS's fee page exclude VAT and other taxes, except in EU countries. The Bulletin names the places where tax is added at checkout, including the United States, Canada, Australia, Nigeria, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Singapore and Vietnam.

TOEFL fee by country

Start with this quick reference. Fees are in US dollars; the full list near the end has every country on ETS's list, and India, Pakistan and Nigeria have their own sections below.

TOEFL exam fee in the USA

The TOEFL iBT costs US$280 in the United States, plus sales tax added at checkout. You can also pay by electronic check from a bank in the United States, the U.S. Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico or Canada. High school seniors with financial need can get half the fee covered through ETS's Fee Reduction Service.

TOEFL fee in Turkey (TOEFL sınav ücreti)

The TOEFL iBT costs US$185 in Turkey, at a test center or at home. That's less than in any EU country on ETS's list and well below US$255, the most common fee. Turkey is one of the countries where ETS adds tax at checkout, so the total at the payment step will be a little higher. The extra fees are in US dollars too: US$49 for late registration, US$69 to reschedule and US$29 for each extra score report.

TOEFL fee in Taiwan (托福報名費)

ETS lists the TOEFL iBT at US$272 in Taiwan, and the same fee covers a test center and the Home Edition. Because the fee is listed in US dollars, the amount in New Taiwan dollars on your card statement depends on your bank's exchange rate. The extra fees are the same as everywhere else, such as US$69 to reschedule and US$29 for each extra score report.

TOEFL fee in Germany (TOEFL Kosten)

The TOEFL iBT costs US$293 in Germany. ETS's fee page says prices in EU countries include VAT, so that's close to what you pay. Nearby fees for comparison: the Netherlands US$304, Austria US$306 and Switzerland US$475, the highest on ETS's list. Poland is the lowest in the EU at US$257.

TOEFL fee in Brazil (TOEFL preço)

The TOEFL iBT costs US$250 in Brazil, the same as in Argentina. Across Latin America, fees run from US$199 in Bolivia to US$275 in Peru; Mexico is US$265, Chile US$245 and Colombia US$220. Chile and Colombia are among the countries where ETS adds tax at checkout.

TOEFL fee in South Korea (토플 응시료)

The TOEFL iBT costs US$232 in South Korea. Korea has its own refund rules: cancel within 7 days of registering and you get the full fee back; after that you get 50% back until 4 days before the test, and nothing later. When a full refund goes back to a card, ETS may credit it in two transactions of 50% each.

TOEFL fee in France (prix du TOEFL)

The TOEFL iBT costs US$294 in France, with VAT included, as in other EU countries. Belgium is US$308, Italy US$305, Spain US$275 and Switzerland US$475.

TOEFL exam fee in India

In India you book and pay in rupees through ETS India. Its fee page lists the test at ₹15,729, and its Bulletin says GST is added to the order when you place it. With GST at 18%, you pay about ₹18,560. The same fee applies at a test center and for the Home Edition.

You can pay with Visa, Mastercard, American Express or RuPay credit and debit cards, Maestro debit cards, or UPI and Bharat QR from any bank app. ETS's worldwide fee list shows US$164 next to India, but that isn't what you pay if you test in India: the rupee price on ETS India applies.

TOEFL exam fee in Pakistan

The TOEFL iBT costs US$230 in Pakistan, at a test center or at home. ETS lists the fee in US dollars, so the amount in rupees depends on your bank's exchange rate and any charges it adds to an international card payment. The extra fees are the same as everywhere else: US$49 for late registration, US$69 to reschedule and US$29 for each extra score report.

TOEFL fee in Nigeria

Nigeria has one of the lowest fees on ETS's list: US$170. Nigeria is one of the countries where ETS adds tax at checkout, so expect a little more at the payment step. ETS accepts only Visa cards in Nigeria, and the same rule applies in Benin, Côte d'Ivoire, Ghana, Kenya and Togo.

TOEFL rescheduling fee, late registration and other fees

The four-day rule is counted in full days: for a Saturday test, the last day to reschedule or cancel is Tuesday. A score review can move your score up or down, and the new score becomes your official score for that date. Our TOEFL Express Scoring guide explains when paying for faster scores is worth it.

TOEFL cancellation and refund

There is no separate cancellation fee. If you cancel at least four full days before your test, ETS automatically refunds 50% of the test fee to the card or account you paid with, in the same currency. After that deadline you get nothing back, and the same goes for missing the test or being turned away without the required ID.

Two exceptions:

• Korea. Cancel within 7 days of registering and you get a full refund. After that, it's 50% until 4 days before the test.
• When ETS cancels. If ETS cancels your session, for example because of severe weather, you can move to a new date at no charge or ask for a full refund.

Canceling your scores at the end of the test isn't the same as canceling the test: you still pay the full fee and get no refund.

TOEFL score report fee

Your fee includes up to four score reports, as long as you choose the institutions in your ETS account by 10 p.m., local test center time, on the day before your test. Each report you order after that costs US$29 (₹2,000 plus GST in India). You can order them at any point while your scores are valid, which is two years from the test date. Once you place an order, you can't change the institution or get a refund.

One trade-off: if you send your scores to any institution, you can no longer ask for a Speaking or Writing score review for that test.

Does the TOEFL Home Edition cost the same?

Yes. ETS lists one fee for each location, and it covers the test at a center and at home. The extra fees are the same too. The Home Edition saves you travel, but it isn't accepted for every purpose: for an Australian visa, Home Affairs says you must choose "Taking TOEFL for Australia" when you register, and it doesn't accept tests taken at home. ETS's Bulletin says only TOEFL iBT Australia tests, and tests taken before 21 January 2026, are approved for Australian visas. Check what your university or visa office accepts before you choose.

TOEFL fee waiver, vouchers and discount codes

Fee waiver. ETS's Fee Reduction Service is for high school seniors in the United States with financial need who are applying to colleges that recommend or require TOEFL scores. The voucher covers 50% of the test fee, and a school counselor requests it. ETS doesn't list a fee waiver for anyone else.

Vouchers. Schools, universities and agencies can offer TOEFL iBT vouchers through ETS's voucher service. A voucher is a code you use as payment when you register, so ask your school whether it has any before you pay yourself.

Discount codes. ETS runs limited-time offers now and then, and some come with codes. You enter a code at checkout in your ETS account, and some services can't be combined with a promotion. Code lists online go out of date quickly; if a code isn't accepted at checkout, it isn't valid.

Is the TOEFL free?

No. There's no free way to sit the official TOEFL iBT, apart from the fee reduction above. Preparation can be free, though. Which is cheaper, TOEFL or IELTS?

It depends on the country, because both tests set their prices locally. In India, TOEFL comes to about ₹18,560 with GST, and IDP India lists IELTS Academic and General Training at ₹19,000, so TOEFL is slightly cheaper. Elsewhere, compare the TOEFL fee in the table with the IELTS price at your nearest test center.

How to pay the TOEFL fee online

You register and pay in your ETS account. ETS accepts:

• credit and debit cards: Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover, JCB, China UnionPay, Diners Club and RuPay;
• PayPal and Alipay;
• electronic check in US dollars, from a bank in the United States, the U.S. Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico or Canada.

In Benin, Côte d'Ivoire, Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria and Togo, only Visa cards are accepted. In India, ETS India also takes UPI, Bharat QR and Maestro debit cards. In mainland China, you register for a test center through the National Education Examinations Authority at toefl.neea.cn, which has its own policies. If your bank declines the payment, ETS charges a US$30 returned-payment fee, and your scores won't be released while a payment is outstanding.

How to keep your TOEFL cost down

1. Book at least seven full days ahead. After that you pay the US$49 express fee.
2. Choose your four score recipients before the test. You have until 10 p.m. the day before; each one you add later costs US$29.
3. Change plans early. Rescheduling at least four full days before costs US$69. Miss that deadline and you lose the whole fee.
4. Check what your universities accept before you pay. Look at their minimum scores, whether they take the Home Edition and whether they accept MyBest scores.
5. Book when your practice scores are ready. Every retake costs the full fee again. Take a timed practice test first and see which sections still cost you points.

This is ETS's full list, with country names as ETS writes them. Fees are in US dollars and exclude tax where ETS adds it at checkout. ETS lists a few places twice under different names, with different fees (Bosnia and Herzegovina, North Macedonia and the British Virgin Islands); we show both entries as ETS does. ETS has paused TOEFL testing in Iran, so it isn't listed.
