Can You Pay to Get TOEFL Scores Early? 2026 Update
TOEFL Express Scoring information is inconsistent. Check the current score timeline, Michael Goodine's updates, and what to do before an application deadline.

Can you pay to get your TOEFL score early? Do not plan your application around the old paid 24-hour Express Scoring offer. ETS currently gives a standard score-release timeline of three days. Although its fee page still lists Express Scoring, that listing alone does not establish that you can buy it for your test. This guide separates the current guidance from older reports about the service.
Sources checked October 7, 2026. This article covers TOEFL iBT. Availability of a current Express Scoring purchase was not independently verified.
Is TOEFL Express Scoring still available in 2026?
The public information is inconsistent. The ETS fee schedule still has an Express Scoring entry at US$129 before applicable taxes. Its current score-release page describes the regular three-day schedule and express shipping for paper reports, but does not set out a current 24-hour scoring offer or its eligibility.
We could not verify a current purchase option or find a definitive ETS announcement of permanent withdrawal. It would be misleading to turn the fee-table entry into a promise that anyone can pay for early results. It would also be misleading to claim a confirmed worldwide cancellation from the evidence available.
If Express Scoring is absent from your registration, treat it as unavailable for your booking unless ETS tells you otherwise. An old screenshot, a search snippet, or a fee in an article is not a substitute for the terms attached to your actual test.
What Michael Goodine reported about early TOEFL scores
Michael Goodine's TOEFL Resources posts help explain why searches return contradictory answers. They describe changes in what he observed during registration in 2024 and 2025:
- December 2024: his original Express Scoring post described a paid 24-hour option, initially US$99. A later update said he could no longer see it.
- February 2025: his follow-up reported its return at US$149. He saw it for test-center bookings, not Home Edition bookings.
- March 2025: “TOEFL Express Scoring: Gone Again?” reported another disappearance. That same post, updated March 13, also says the service returned.
Those are useful historical observations, not confirmation of what is sold in October 2026. In particular, citing only the “Gone Again?” headline would leave out its subsequent update. The old prices and 24-hour claim should not be presented as today's booking terms.
How long do TOEFL scores take now?
ETS says scores are available in your account three days after the test, with the expected release date shown when you finish. Its download guidance allows another 24–48 hours for the PDF. Plan around the release date for your appointment and leave room for delays.
Seeing a result online, having a downloadable PDF, and having a university receive an official report are separate steps. Ask your admissions office which one its deadline requires. A portal that accepts a self-reported result creates a different practical deadline from one requiring a matched official report.
For example, suppose an application closes on Friday and your displayed score date is Thursday. Even if the online score arrives on schedule, a required PDF or university delivery could still make that plan too tight. Ask about provisional submission before the deadline, rather than assuming a faster option will solve it afterward.
Express Scoring, express shipping, and express registration
| Service | What it refers to | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Express Scoring | The historical paid offer for earlier results. | Current availability and terms are unverified. Do not assume it can be purchased. |
| Express shipping | Delivery of a paper score report. | Shipping starts after scores are confirmed; it does not make scoring finish earlier. |
| Express registration | Registration close to the test date. | The ETS fee table lists this separately. It is not an early-results purchase. |
ETS describes express paper delivery as usually taking two to five business days after score confirmation or the additional report order. That clock does not start when you finish the exam. Check the exact item name before paying for any service labeled “express.”
What to do if your application deadline is close
- Read the evidence requirement. Find out whether the university needs a self-reported score, your PDF, or an official report sent by ETS. Check the deadline's time zone as well as its date.
- Contact admissions now. Give your test date and expected score date. Ask whether you can submit the rest of the application on time and supply the result later. Keep its answer in writing.
- Check recipient delivery separately. ETS says institutional delivery depends on the receiving method. Confirm receipt with the university; your account displaying a score does not prove that it has been matched to your application.
- Ask ETS about your actual booking. Use TOEFL customer support for an unavailable service or a delayed result. If offered a paid option, ask what it accelerates, which appointment it covers, and what happens if the stated timing is missed.
You can send admissions a short message: “My TOEFL test is scheduled for [date], and my expected score-release date is [date]. May I submit my application by [deadline] and provide the official result afterward? Please confirm which score document you require and the latest date you can accept it.”
Frequently asked questions
Can I pay to get my TOEFL scores in 24 hours?
A paid 24-hour service was reported in 2024–25. We have not verified it as a current booking option. Do not use those old reports as a guarantee for a new test.
Can I add Express Scoring after taking TOEFL?
The public guidance reviewed here does not establish a current way to buy faster scoring after the test. Ask ETS about your registration before spending money. Ordering a paper report or another university report is a different transaction.
Can I see any scores immediately without paying?
ETS's score FAQ says you can see unofficial Reading and Listening results at the end of the test. They are subject to quality checks and are not the complete official report.
Can paying extra resolve a score delay or administrative review?
Do not assume it can. None of the sources reviewed establishes a paid way to bypass a review. Follow the instructions attached to your result and contact ETS for the status of your case; ask admissions separately about deadline flexibility.
Preparing before test day
If you have not taken the exam yet, leave time to practice as well as to receive the result. Use the TOEFL practice-test guide to plan a full rehearsal, or start with free Build a Sentence practice. The TOEFL 2026 changes guide explains the current tasks and score scale. PrepEx provides preparation and practice estimates; ETS issues official TOEFL results.
