What do you need to do?
Listen to a series of 6–8 questions and record an answer to each. You hear each question once and have 35 seconds to answer.
Keep in mindThe 35 seconds start when the question ends. Waiting to press Record uses that time.
What should your answer do?
Treat each turn like a conversation. Answer what was asked and explain your answer. A follow-up may ask you to say more about an earlier idea.
How to answer
- Listen for what the question asks: a choice, a reason, an experience, or an explanation.
The question will not play again.
- Start recording promptly.
Give your direct answer in the first sentence.
- Add a reason and a useful detail or short example.
Stay with the question you just heard.
- For a follow-up, build on what you said earlier.
If you change your view, explain why.
- Finish your thought before moving on.
Use remaining time for relevant detail rather than repeating the same point.

Example answer
I prefer cooking at home because I can choose what goes into my meals. For example, I add more vegetables and use less salt. I also enjoy cooking with my sister at weekends.
Why this works
The opening answers the choice. The next sentences explain it with specific details. If a follow-up asks what you cook together, continue from that detail.
This is a short teaching example. Your answer should use your own ideas and respond to the question you hear.
Common mistakes and how to fix them
- Waiting for another playback. Listen closely the first time and answer with what you understood.
- Giving only yes or no. Add a reason or example so the listener understands your answer.
- Giving a prepared speech about a related topic. Answer this question first.
How to improve your next answer
- Listen to one answer and check whether the first sentence answers the question.
- Try the same idea again with a clearer reason. Then practise a new question within 35 seconds.
