Read the policy for your test date

An old TOEFL threshold is not a current requirement until the university says so. Penn State’s old 80-point minimum became 4.5 in its published policy. MIT’s former recommended 100 became 5.5. Neither follows the general conversion you might expect.

  1. Match the campus, degree level, program and intake.
  2. Use the current requirement for tests from January 21, 2026, and the institution’s dated policy for older tests.
  3. Check every section minimum and whether results must come from a single sitting.
  4. Confirm test validity, accepted editions, submission instructions and deadlines.
