Section scores, test dates and policy scope

These current requirements apply to tests taken on or after January 21, 2026. Match the exact degree to its requirement; a general-program threshold does not cover every Engineering or Journalism degree. The old numbers in the table are ASU’s earlier policies, not conversions.

Sending your result

ASU accepts test-center iBT and Home Edition taken on or after January 21, 2026, but not Paper Edition. Send electronic reports using institution code 4007. Confirm the two-year validity window against your intended start date.

Confirm the current instructions and deadline on the official ASU admissions page.

What to practice for this requirement

Choose your degree’s overall target first. Then check that Reading, Listening, Writing and Speaking each reach 3.5; a higher overall result cannot replace a missing section minimum.

Choose a TOEFL practice task or review the task guides. Meeting a test threshold does not guarantee admission.

Compare policies without converting the requirement

The TOEFL score converter explains the general relationship between current bands and old overall scores. Use ASU’s published policy above for your application.

If you are considering another accepted test, read the separate ASU Duolingo English Test profile. The DET requirement is independently set, not calculated from TOEFL.
