IELTS Liz Essay Correction: How to Get Useful Feedback
What the IELTS Liz correction page currently says, how to review a Task 2 essay, and how to apply feedback to a fresh PrepEx practice question.

On this page
If you are looking for IELTS Liz essay correction, check the service information before sending your work. As checked on 8 October 2026, Liz’s essay correction page describes marking as a service she hopes to activate in the future. That page is not an active offer to mark your essay.
You can still use her lessons while getting feedback elsewhere. Start by checking whether your essay answers its question, then look at the explanation of your ideas and the language you used. Below is a practical review sheet, an original paragraph revision, and a way to use feedback on a fresh Task 2 attempt.
PrepEx is independent of IELTS Liz and is not affiliated with or endorsed by her. This guide is PrepEx’s advice; the examples are our own.

What does IELTS Liz offer for Writing Task 2?
Liz’s Writing Task 2 page brings together explanations, essay questions, model answers and practice lessons. It also links to paid learning materials. Those resources can help you understand a writing problem and study how an answer is built.
Reading a model and receiving comments on your own essay are different activities. If you want individual correction, check what the provider actually returns: comments on the complete task and response, reasons for the comments, and changes you can make yourself. A subscription to lessons does not automatically include personal marking.
If you need a routine across all four skills, use our existing IELTS Liz and PrepEx study plan. This article focuses on what to do with a Task 2 essay you have written.
Which kind of essay feedback do you need?
Start with self-review if you need to find your next question. The checklist below can help you spot a missing instruction or an unexplained idea. It cannot independently establish your band.
Choose a qualified IELTS teacher if you need to discuss a difficult point. Before paying for correction, ask whether the service reviews the full prompt and essay, comments across all four criteria, and lets you ask about a comment you do not understand. Check the reviewer’s stated experience, turnaround time and what is included.
Use an AI-supported practice task for another attempt and an initial review. Read the comments critically and keep your own work. In PrepEx, you answer a question from the practice hub; the route in this guide does not offer personal marking by Liz or a general upload service for any essay.
Before you ask for feedback, check these four things
Keep the exact question beside your response. A reviewer needs both. An essay may be fluent and still miss an instruction, discuss the wrong comparison, or leave one part of the question unanswered.
IELTS Task 2 uses four assessment criteria: Task Response, Coherence and Cohesion, Lexical Resource, and Grammatical Range and Accuracy. The official assessment criteria explain what they cover. Use the questions below to locate evidence in your writing; this is a review aid, not a band calculator.
| Check | What to look for in your response | If you cannot find it |
|---|---|---|
| Task Response | Underline the words that answer each instruction. Can a reader identify your position where the question requires one? | Write down the missing part before editing individual sentences. |
| Coherence and Cohesion | Give each body paragraph a short description of its job. Check how one sentence leads to the next. | Find the point where an explanation jumps, repeats itself or changes topic. |
| Lexical Resource | Circle wording whose meaning or word combination you are unsure of. Check whether a replacement would say what you intend. | Use a word you can use accurately; investigate the uncertain expression separately. |
| Grammatical Range and Accuracy | Read the longer sentences carefully. Can you follow who does what, and how the clauses relate? | Correct the specific structure, then check other sentences for the same error. |
Do this before reading a suggested rewrite. It leaves you with questions to investigate instead of a polished answer to copy. If you cannot explain why a change helps, keep that point open for further review.
A worked revision: make the explanation useful
Consider a paragraph supporting the idea that a neighbourhood library could lend household tools as well as books. The following extracts are original teaching examples. They are not a complete Task 2 response, a real learner submission, an IELTS Liz quotation or a scored model.
First version
Libraries should lend tools because this would be helpful for local people. Tools are important in daily life and many people need them. This service would bring many benefits to the community. Therefore, lending tools would be a very useful thing for libraries to do.
The paragraph states a benefit several times but does not explain it. A comment such as “develop your idea” would be more useful if it identified the missing connection: which people benefit, what problem do they have, and how does borrowing solve it?
One possible revision
A small tool-lending service could help residents who need equipment only occasionally. Someone putting up a shelf, for example, may need a drill for an afternoon but have little reason to buy and store one. Borrowing it from a local library would make that small repair less expensive. The service would still need a suitable storage area and a way to check returned tools, so a library could begin with a limited collection instead of committing space to equipment that few residents use.
The revision identifies a user, explains a practical benefit and acknowledges an operating constraint. It gives the reader something to assess. It does not prove that every library should run the service, and a complete essay would still need to meet the actual question’s instructions.
Notice what the review did not require: an invented survey, a claim that “research proves” the argument, or replacing every ordinary word. Your own paragraph may need a different repair. Do not force this example’s structure onto every topic.
How to decide which feedback to use
Ask for feedback that points to your text. A comment should help you locate a problem, understand its effect and choose a revision. Use the same checks whether the first suggestion comes from a teacher, a study partner or an AI tool.
| Comment you receive | Question to investigate | Possible next action |
|---|---|---|
| “You have not answered the whole question.” | Which instruction is missing, and where did I think I had answered it? | Rework the relevant part of the plan before polishing vocabulary. |
| “This paragraph needs development.” | Which claim needs a reason, explanation or example? | Add the missing connection and remove repeated claims. |
| “Your vocabulary is repetitive.” | Am I repeating an idea, or using the same wording for different ideas? | Repair the thinking or the wording, according to the actual problem. |
| “Use more complex grammar.” | What relationship am I trying to express, and is my present sentence accurate? | Practise a suitable structure without making the sentence harder to understand. |
AI feedback can make mistakes. Check quoted passages against your essay and make sure a suggested change preserves your meaning. If feedback conflicts with the prompt, the official criteria or another assessment, keep the original and ask a qualified teacher about that specific disagreement. Our AI IELTS Writing assessment example shows why an automated estimate needs to be read alongside the actual comments.
You cannot establish an official band by counting checklist ticks. The official Writing descriptors describe performance across the full response. One improved paragraph does not establish a new overall Writing score.
Use the review on a fresh PrepEx Task 2 question
Open the Task 2 section of the IELTS Practice Hub. The link selects Writing and Task 2 so you can choose a question without searching through the other skills.
- Choose an available sample. Create or sign in to your free account. Look for a Task 2 card you can start; other cards may require Pro.
- Write for that question. Keep model answers closed during an independent attempt. For timed practice, allow about 40 minutes and write at least 250 words. IELTS allocates 60 minutes to both Writing tasks, with Task 2 weighted twice as heavily as Task 1. These timings and requirements come from the official Academic Writing format.
- Read the resulting feedback with your essay. Locate one comment that points to a recurring issue. PrepEx band estimates are practice estimates, not official IELTS results or marking by Liz.
- Make a revision you understand. Keep a copy of the original and the revised passage in your notes. Explain the change in a sentence.
- Check another question later. See whether you can avoid the same problem without following the previous answer. Allow for your account’s practice limits when scheduling the next attempt.
This route is for answering PrepEx’s own practice questions. It is not a promise that the hub will accept an arbitrary IELTS Liz question and mark an essay pasted against it. Always write for the prompt shown in the practice task.
At the source check, PrepEx’s free plan listed two IELTS practice sessions per UTC day shared across Writing, Speaking, Reading and Listening. Free samples and Pro-only tasks coexist; premium tools also have separate credit allowances. Check the current IELTS plans and your account before choosing extra practice. You can use the checklist on this page without an account.
Keep one useful review note
Copy these four lines into a notebook or document after reviewing an essay:
- The comment I investigated: ____________________
- The passage that supports or contradicts it: ____________________
- My change, and why it helps: ____________________
- What I will check in a different essay: ____________________
For the library example, the note might be: “My first paragraph repeated that lending tools would help. I added a specific borrowing situation and explained the saving. On the next task, I will check whether my main reason has an explanation before adding another reason.”
That is a manageable target for another practice session. If you still cannot identify the problem after reviewing examples and feedback, bring the question, original response and your attempted revision to a teacher.
Questions about IELTS Liz essay feedback
