What goes in your Reading mistake notes?

What does one entry in your Reading error notes look like? The phrase you missed, why the wrong answer was tempting, or both? Also how do you check it helped on a new passage? Repeating one you remember doesn't seem a fair test.

Made-up note: Summary completion: used two words for ONE WORD ONLY. Next time: check the limit first. Then try a fresh question and see if it happens again. No need to copy the whole task.

What if the explanation still doesn't make sense? Could mark it 'not understood yet' and write the exact bit to ask about.

Yes, leave 'not understood yet'. Add your answer, the key's answer and the confusing phrase. Then update the note when the explanation makes sense.

Could mark when it's resolved, then try a fresh question later without rereading the note. If the same doubt comes up, it needs another look.

This learner chose False where the book gives True, over music-reading ability being essential. They read 'should' differently from 'must'. What surrounding evidence belongs in the note? I wouldn't turn it into a rule that should always means must.

Copy the sentence and the surrounding evidence that makes it a requirement. Underlining 'should' alone won't show that.

Beside the sentence, maybe write 'required, or just helpful?' Then check the surrounding text. On a fresh question, work it out again rather than assume 'should' means True.

Could put 'helps' and 'needed' side by side and tick what the passage supports. Easier to see if we're making the claim stronger than it is.

Does ONE WORD ONLY tell us anything about singular or plural? Or do we need the full question and, for Listening, the audio too?

ONE WORD ONLY just tells you the number of words. The answer could be singular or plural. The passage or audio decides that, so check the grammar around the gap too.

Do you write the note in your own words, or do you copy the sentence from the passage? Just wondering if one works better for spotting your own pattern.

I think copy the sentence first, then try to write my own words below it. Is that too long for one note?

That's not too long if the copied sentence is one line. Your own words are the part that shows what you actually understood, so keep both but skip the whole paragraph.
