With a word like record, the noun and verb have different stress. Is stressing the wrong part enough to make a familiar word harder to follow?

Does every word used as both a noun and a verb change its stress like that?

No. 'Visit' keeps the stress on the first syllable as both a noun and a verb. Better to check each word than apply that pattern to all of them.
