I'm a primary school teacher in Uzbekistan, trying to fit IELTS around work. With 20–30 minutes on a weekday, how much would you spend practising and checking? And one skill for a few days, or rotate them? A short example session would help.

The Hero Teacher

Well, 20-30 minutes a day would too restrictive for a full-time IELTS study timetable. However, I think you can make it happen if you're dedicated enough; I would suggest you to develop your english as much as you for a few months, especially academic English by reading academic articles and working on "academic vocabulary in use" book. You can also use the materials that we share in the community. Coming to practices, start with passive skills: Listening and Reading. Practice them as much as you can. With the time you have on a daily basis, you should aim to work on one single section in listening, or one single passage in Reading. Please, inform me once you regularly do what I mentioned above. The rest will not be that difficult.

Would 5 minutes on an old mistake, 12 on a short task and 8 checking it work? If checking takes longer, carry it into the next session?

If checking takes longer than eight minute, do you leave it for next session or use that time now and skip new task?

If it needs more checking, I'd start the next session there rather than rush it. Might need a smaller new task that day.

That split sounds workable. If checking keeps stealing new-task time, maybe cap checking at 8 minutes and move whatever is unfinished to the start of the next session?
