Which IELTS Writing feedback should you choose?
Start with the decision you cannot make alone. Do you need to find repeated errors, understand why an argument fails, or practise completing both tasks on time? Buying more reviews only helps if the reviews address that problem.

What should an IELTS essay correction include?
A useful correction should refer to your question, identify evidence in your answer and separate language errors from problems with the response itself. A rewritten essay on its own is weak feedback: you can read a polished answer without learning how to produce one.
- A check of the task. Did you answer every instruction, keep to the topic and make your position clear where required?
- Comments on organisation. Can the reader follow the sequence? Does each paragraph do a clear job?
- Specific language evidence. Which words or sentences cause trouble, and what is the reason for changing them?
- Priorities. Which one or two problems should you work on first? A list of twenty edits can leave this unclear.
- A next attempt. What should you revise, and how will you check that you can use the skill on a different question?
The official assessment covers four areas. Task 1 uses Task Achievement; Task 2 uses Task Response. Both also use Coherence and Cohesion, Lexical Resource, and Grammatical Range and Accuracy. Read the IELTS key assessment criteria for the definitions. A grammar-only tool covers part of the work, even if its interface calls the result an IELTS check.
Ask to see an anonymised or demonstration report before buying. Look for comments that could only have been written about that answer. “Improve vocabulary” is generic. A comment explaining that “economic” and “economical” mean different things, and identifying the intended meaning in a sentence, gives you something to learn.
AI IELTS writing checker or human teacher?
AI feedback is convenient when you want to practise regularly without waiting for an appointment. It can suggest clearer sentences and flag possible weaknesses. You still need to check that the suggestion preserves your meaning and responds to the actual task. A confident explanation can be wrong.
A teacher can ask what you meant, discuss competing ways to organise your answer and help when written comments have not resolved the problem. Quality varies between teachers too. Relevant experience, a clear sample review and useful follow-up matter more than an impressive title alone. Check any claim of examiner experience with the provider.
Use a second opinion when the advice does not make sense. For example, if a checker says you have no position but your introduction states one, ask which later sentence creates uncertainty. Do not weaken a clear argument just to satisfy a comment that has no evidence.

How much should IELTS Writing feedback cost?
There is no single useful market price: a quick automated check, a detailed teacher report and a live lesson buy different things. Compare the total charge for the period you need, the number of reviews you expect to use, and the help included after each review.
Cost per completed review = total charge ÷ reviews you actually use. For a learning budget, also count how many reviews lead to a revision. Ten unused corrections have no practical value to your next essay.
A worked budget example
Suppose a fictional plan costs $30 for one month. You complete six reviewed essays: the cost is $5 per reviewed essay. If you only complete two, it is $15. A separate fictional teacher package costs $40 for two essays and a follow-up discussion. That is $20 per essay, but the discussion is a different service. These figures illustrate the calculation; they are not supplier quotes or average market prices.
Ask whether a revised version counts as a new submission. Check expiry dates, word limits, Task 1 coverage, extra charges, renewal dates and cancellation terms. For a subscription with credits, find out which tools consume them and whether unused credits roll over. “Unlimited practice” does not necessarily mean unlimited use of every premium tool.
A checklist before buying a Writing correction service
Use this checklist with any provider, including PrepEx. If an answer is missing from the offer, resolve it before paying.
- Coverage: Academic or General Training? Task 1, Task 2, or both? Does an Academic report review include the visual?
- Reviewer: AI, a teacher, or a combination? Does the advertised expert actually review your submission?
- Evidence: Are comments tied to your sentences and the question, with reasons for the main changes?
- Timing: When should feedback arrive, and will you have time to use it before the next attempt?
- Follow-up: Can you challenge an unclear comment? Is checking a revision included?
- Limits: How many submissions, words, credits or sessions are covered? When do they expire?
- Terms: What is charged now, what renews, and how do cancellation and refunds work?
- Privacy: Is the essay private, shared with a reviewer or published in a community?
Be cautious about guaranteed band improvements, “official” scores from independent apps, or a correction service that will not identify how its feedback is produced. A sample full of colour and charts can still lack a clear explanation of what you should do next.
What does useful Task 2 feedback look like?
The following short example is original teaching material, not an examiner-scored essay or a prediction of a band. Imagine a learner explaining why evening classes could help working adults.
Original sentence
“Evening classes are good for workers because they are useful and help people learn more things.”
A grammar check might leave this mostly unchanged. The larger problem is that “good,” “useful” and “more things” do not explain the benefit. A useful comment would ask the writer to identify a barrier, show how evening classes address it, and connect that change to learning.
A possible revision
“Evening classes allow adults with daytime jobs to attend lessons after work, so they can take a course without giving up their income.”
This version names the practical constraint and explains the benefit. It does not need a rare synonym for “good.” It is still only one sentence; the rest of the paragraph must support the argument and fit the full question.
The follow-up is important: write a different explanation without copying this sentence pattern word for word. If you can identify a barrier and explain a consequence in new work, you have done more than accept an edit. For a longer worked revision, use the community’s IELTS Writing 6.5-to-7 guide.
Task 1 and Task 2 need different feedback
For an Academic Task 1 report, the reviewer needs the chart, table, map or diagram as well as your answer. Otherwise they cannot reliably check the figures, comparisons or overview. Ask whether your main features are well selected before spending all your revision time replacing words.
For a General Training letter, provide the full situation and all the instructions. Feedback should check that the purpose and requested points are clear and that the tone suits the reader. An Academic chart lesson does not replace letter practice.
For Task 2, provide the exact question. The reviewer needs to judge the response against that question rather than against the general topic. An essay about education may be clear but still fail to address a question about who should fund adult courses.
IELTS allocates 60 minutes to Writing. The minimum lengths are 150 words for Task 1 and 250 for Task 2; Task 2 contributes twice as much to the Writing score. See the official Writing format. Can you get useful IELTS Writing feedback for free?
Yes. A careful peer can tell you where an explanation becomes hard to follow, and free practice can help you identify a problem before buying more support. The limitation is the service commitment: a public post does not guarantee a response, a qualified marker or a deadline.

- Choose a relevant topic, such as the Education vocabulary pack or Work and Business pack.
- Pick a few words you understand. Check their meaning and typical use; do not force every word into the same paragraph.
- Write your own sentences, then use a suitable expression in a fresh response where it adds precision.
- Ask whether the wording expresses the intended meaning naturally. Keep the simpler word if it does the job better.

A practical routine after you receive feedback
Save the first version before editing. Group the comments into task coverage, organisation and language. Choose the most consequential problem you can work on now; a missing explanation usually needs more attention than a minor wording preference.
- Explain the issue. Write one sentence in your own words describing what the reader could not understand.
- Revise the relevant part. Keep your intended meaning and fix the reason for the problem.
- Compare versions. Point to the change and explain why it helps. If you cannot, ask for clarification.
- Try a new question. Apply the skill without looking at the corrected answer.
- Review under time pressure. Once the change is manageable, check whether it survives a timed attempt.
IELTS Writing feedback: common questions
What is the best IELTS Writing correction service?
The best fit depends on your need. Compare a sample report, task coverage, reviewer experience, follow-up and total cost. A teacher is useful for unresolved questions; an AI checker can support frequent practice. Neither a high price nor a fast score establishes quality.
Is paid IELTS Writing feedback worth it?
It can be when it identifies a problem you cannot fix alone and you have time to revise. Try a small commitment first. Paying for repeated scores without changing your work is unlikely to resolve the underlying weakness.
Can AI tell me my exact IELTS Writing band?
No tool can guarantee your official result. Treat automated bands as practice estimates and examine the evidence behind the comments. A disagreement between tools is a reason to inspect the writing, not average the numbers into an official score.
Can I get Task 2 feedback without paying?
Free tools and peer communities can provide suggestions within their limits. PrepEx members can ask focused questions in Writing discussions, but a teacher response is not guaranteed. Check the current free-account allowances before submitting practice work.
How many essays should I have corrected before IELTS?
There is no fixed number that proves readiness. Review enough varied work to identify recurring problems, revise it and check fresh timed responses. Several reviewed versions of one familiar essay cannot show how you handle a new question.
